Have your thoughts on dogfennel control changed in recent years? Any difference between 2,4-D and dicamba as a burndown? For peanuts, they have to get it before the peanuts emerge. My recommendation is glyphosate plus an auxin material 4 weeks prior to planting, followed by more glyphosate at planting or paraquat (especially if marestail, ragweed and Palmer amaranth have emerged that are glyphosate resistant), and then one more shot of paraquat at a burndown rate before the peanuts emerge. At the cracking stage, Strongarm could be applied along with the in-season paraquat rate if dogfennel (and marestail) are present.
Response:
No real changes on the dogfennel front. I have been suggesting folks use as much Roundup as they can stand. I have always thought dicamba was a little better on perennials than 2,4-D but don’t have any data to back that up on dogfennel. If using 2,4-D, they need to be using 1 quart/A not 1 pint/A.
Also, been suggesting folks be on the lookout for in the late summer/early fall in land to be rotated to peanuts. It would not hurt to have a Roundup or Roundup + auxin before a killing frost to get out ahead of it for the next year.
