All graduating seniors or current college students from Rockingham County are encouraged to apply for the Ray Styer Memorial Scholarship if they have a passion for raising cattle, promoting agriculture and improving the farmland of the county.
This scholarship was established by the Rockingham County Cattlemen’s Association (RCCA) in 2019. Initial funding was provided by the RCCA members through Lifetime Membership dues, Platinum Level Corporate Sponsorship, and various fundraising projects. At the present time scholarships are awarded in $500 increments, depending upon the number of applicants and availability of funds.
Mr. Ray Styer, a member of the Rockingham County Cattlemen's Hall of Fame, was an avid cattleman and land conservationist. He promoted no-till planting, crop rotation, and he was a firm believer in the farmer’s responsibility to care for the land. This scholarship is named in memory of him and to honor the work that he did on his farm and in Rockingham County. The Cattlemen’s Association wants to support the educational pursuits of the next generation of agriculturalists and conservationists.
The application for the scholarship can be found below. The scholarship deadline is March 1st, 2025.
